Spiritual activism is for those of us who feel called to take direct action, and take a stand for making our world a better place. It is about doing our inner work, and getting out into our communities to help people in need and protect our beautiful planet. When we take a stand to address injustice or disturbing happenings grounded in Unity principles we do so clearly, kindly, compassionately.
Unity Community of Central Oregon has had an active EarthCare program for several years now. Last year we broadened our approach to community-engagement and spiritual activism by adding social and economic justice to our environmental justice activities through our ACT (Action, Compassion, Transformation) ministry. The ACT Ministry, and our social and environmental justice and advocacy is about Unity’s Fifth Principle of Action grounded in principle. It is where we directly support people in need and our planet and use our Unity message to promote positive developments in our community and world.
Cylvia Hayes is a Unity minister-in-training and is our Spiritual Leader, heading up our ACT Ministry. E-mail Cylvia
Ande Cardwell is our ACT Community Engager and she keeps us informed about organizations and causes in our community that are in need of volunteers and resources. Ande also adds interested community members to our ACT Team outreach list. If you sign on to our ACT Team you’ll get occasional emails of local good causes that can use resources and/or volunteers.
“Sacred Activism is the fusion of the mystic’s passion for God with the activist’s passion for justice, creating a third fire, which is the burning sacred heart that longs to help, preserve, and nurture every living thing.” — Andrew Harvey
