Hopes and Dreams—Beneath the Snowline
with Rev. Jane Hiatt
Winter is the time of dreaming, when life is preparing beneath the surface. In tune with the season, this is the time for us to connect with our dreams, to foster hope. We also celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. who held his dream for humanity with such power that he created a movement. The Hebrew Scriptures are full of dreams that changed the course of the people’s history. Dreams have power. Let’s honor the dreaming process.

Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00 PM, on Zoom
Daniel Reader slipped into Formless Love on Thursday, 1/11/24. Daniel was a beloved member of our community. He was a teacher, a tender of plants, a host of Spirit Groups, and so much more. He leaves his partner of 20 years, Cari Bourette, and all of us, richer for having known him and so sad to let him go. We will have an online celebration of life for him on Feb. 3.

It’s also okay to come to some at noon and some in the evening.

- Week four: Adding Your Secret Sauce–blending purpose, community and contribution.
Unity Muscle Forming!
Several of our members have been snow heroes this week: Scott Jordan, Dan Stephenson, and Nate Hitchcock — just to name a few we’ve heard about. Scott and Lisa Jordan got thinking how it would be nice to have a team of folks with extra heart and muscle who could help those in our community who can’t shovel themselves out, or who need help to move heavy stuff or with other physical tasks. Want to be part of Unity Muscle? Enroll by clicking here!
If you need this or other kinds of help, like getting groceries or a ride to the doctor, a babysitter or a referral to a professional, (whether it’s snowing or not), or if you have goods or services to offer (for free), you can post your request or offering on U COUNT, our community networking tool. U COUNT just lets you know who needs help or has something to offer, you alone decide if you will respond. Never any pressure. Have you signed up for U COUNT? If not, click here to enroll and connect with practical kindness to our community. “
Spirit Groups Starting This Month
Compassionate Communication (NVC) – Starts Jan. 27th at 1pm for 7 weeks (Only one spot left). Hosted by Carol Fox in SE Bend. We will read and discuss “Nonviolent Communication – A Language of Life” (3rd edition) by Marshall Rosenberg. Rosenberg believed that our greatest human need is for connection. NVC offers a simple but profound understanding of how we can communicate with others in ways that strengthen our connections and meet our other needs as well. At our first meeting we’ll decide the best meeting time/day that works for the group.

Ellipse Theatre Community Presents the Play – God of Carnage – at Unity, Jan. 11th – 20th
Come support the fabulous local non-profit theater company as they support our venue! The vision of Ellipse Theatre Community (ETC) is to dynamically create community through entertainment, education, and diverse perspectives for cultural enlightenment.
About the play – A playground altercation between two eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses (and the rum flows), tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their principles in tatters. While we all strive to listen to our better natures, God of Carnage uncompromisingly captures the complexity, frailty and absurdity of human nature. Cost $25. (Play contains adult language).
