Invitation to Sunday’s talk with Nate Hitchcock

The Power of Power

with Nate Hitchcock

Join us this Sunday to hear Nate Hitchcock continue our exploration of the 12 Powers in our Reel to Real summer speaker series with a look at “The Power of Power.”  He’ll be taking a dive into the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” where we see two very different uses of power by the characters Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort.  Let’s explore those different uses, the motivations behind their individual quest for and use of power, and the vastly different results they each receive.  But most importantly, let’s see what lessons they give us on how to best wield our Power of Power as we navigate our daily lives.

12 Powers for the Planet

This Week’s Planet Challenge – Love 🌎

Win a prize while helping our planet

With more and more urban areas expanding into forest habitats, more of us are being separated from nature.  This makes us feel separated from oneness and love. Watch this video and let yourself fall in love with the beauty of nature, where everything is connected.

Weekly Home Challenge: Take a photo or make a picture of three things in nature that help you feel close to Spirit’s pure love energy. This will help you create a habit of finding love and connection everywhere you go. Once you complete the challenge fill out a raffle ticket at Unity and put it in the entry box to be entered to win some fun prizes we’ll be giving away at the end of the series.

Financial Report for the First Five Months of 2024

We want to share a picture of our Community’s financial energy and health with you.  We’re still putting together June results, so this is where we are at the end of May.  So far this year, we’ve raised a little over $ 100K, up 43% from last year during the same period.  $ 71,000 came from your contributions, up 15% from the same time last year — a great increase in green energy.  So far this year, Clare Kubota and her team have raised $19,000 in revenue from events including concerts and plays held in our sanctuary facility which is an ideal venue for jazz concerts, community theater, etc.  Our first auction was a great success raising almost $ 8,700.  For the year through May, we spent $ 90,000, leaving us $ 8,800 “in the black” compared to last year at the same time when we were more than $13,000 “in the red.”  As you can see in the expenditures pie chart, the main categories of spending are in Ministerial/Sunday Services at 26%, Rent at 24%, and Administration at 15%.  Note that most of the time and talent that makes our Unity work is donated by our many volunteers.  If all these contributions of our members’ time and talent were purchased, we’d probably double our costs and have to double our contributions of green energy too.  Please share your gratitude with our volunteers who do so much to keep us going and financially healthy too. (This report was put together by Eric Moyerman, our board treasurer. If you have questions feel free to contact him HERE)

Help Us Support Bend Food Project

Member Anna Thedford picks up our donations for Bend Food Project the first Sunday of every other month. If you’d like to contribute you can pick up a green Bend Food Project bag at Unity, fill it with non-perishable grocery items, and bring it on the next pick up date which is coming up on August 4th.

Member Appreciation

At the beginning of summer we needed to quickly revamp some things in our youth program and put out the call for several additional volunteers in order to keep the program going. Well guess what, we’ve had so many wonderful people step up to help and we’d like to give them a big shout out. Monica Beltrami, Sanya Membe, Anna Thedford, Reese Thedford, Carol Fox, Leia Napoli, Tor Brown, Kristen Poppet, Meagan Stephenson, Laurel Alyn-Forest, Karen Vela, and Alicia Veda, thank you, thank you, thank you!! The regular youth leads are so grateful for your assistance because you have made their job much easier. Once again I say, it takes a village to run our beautiful community. We celebrate you! 🥳🥳

We are always looking for volunteers for our youth program. If you’re interested in being a youth assistant once every 4 to 6 weeks let Clare Kubota know.
