The Power of Prayer

Unity World Day of Prayer – Beginning at 5pm on Sept. 13th and throughout the day on Sept. 14th. If you’re familiar with the 5 Principles of Unity you know that the 4th Principle is Prayer is Connection – Through affirmative prayer and meditation, I connect with God (or insert your preferred word here) and bring out the good in my life. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good.

Unity World Wide is hosting many online ceremonies, prayers, and discussions with inspirational Unity ministers from all over the US. All events are free, you just need to register.

In tandem with Unity World Day of Prayer, we invite all of our community to light a candle and hold prayerful space for our community and our world on Wednesday, September 13, from 6-6:45 pm. If you are able to be present in our sanctuary, we ask you to join three of our prayer leaders, Dave and Colinda Finch and Donna Benjamin, who will be there holding sacred space.

Walk For The World with Dr. Joe Dispenza – An international live walking meditation on Sept. 23 – learn more HERE. As he says, “When we walk as one mind and one heart, a higher consciousness emerges. We walk as it with hearts and eyes wide open, releasing old stories to become an evolved version of ourselves.” You can participate from wherever you are. Member Elaine Cornick will be joining a group in Bend that is participating. This is a beautiful way to co-create the world we want to live in! Feel free to contact Elaine Cornick at with any questions.

Prayer for Rain in the Amazon – The Amazon is incredibly dry right now so the indigenous spiritual leaders of the Aniwa Community have asked for 5 minutes of prayer for rain every morning at 9:11am PDT. The more that join the more powerful the prayer. Bring on the rain!

Prayer at Sunday Service – If you have a prayer you’d like your Unity Community to hold for you be sure to fill out one of the green forms in the back of the chairs on Sunday. If you watch online submit your prayer HERE. Our prayer team will hold it in prayer for 7 days then send it to Silent Unity where it is held in prayer for another 30 days. We also have prayer team members who will do a personal prayer with you following service. We are a community and here for each other in times of need.

Member Appreciation

Member Carol Fox deserves a shower of appreciation! She handles all the U Count activities (how members of our community can communicate with others in the community about things they need or things they are offering), she just donated several lovely plants to our sanctuary, she hosted last week’s movie showing of Fierce Grace, and she has supported long time member, Patrice Goodman, in her home coming. As I write this, Patrice has just arrived at the Redmond airport so she can return to her Bend home. She fell one year ago and is currently paralyzed from the neck down. Carol has put together an amazing team of caregivers for her to make this return home possible. Carol also rallied several friends to be at the airport to welcome her. You have a BIG heart 💖💖 Carol and it is appreciated by so many!! There are many others in our community who have supported Patrice in her journey to recovery. It has taken a village, and what a beautiful village we have!

Notes from the Parliament of World Religions Conference

A few members from our community recently attended this conference and it was very powerful. Here is Lisé Gottwald’s reflection –

Without elaborating … all was amazing. The panels that presented the living creaturehood and our loving responsibility to be in good relations with them as opposed to dominion over them had a powerful presence throughout the week.

The call to consciousness towards who and what we eat. The exploitation of the planet and her resources and the bounty of this Earth Mother able to feed, sustain, protect and care for all of life, listening deeply into and knowing that truth. To let our lives be a living, loving action, benefitting and holding good for all. Unity Principle #5.

I know the food documentaries as I am an avid documentary film attendee. Here’s a statistic to chew on … one hamburger will cost you 6 months of bathing. That is the amount of water that will be used to place that hamburger on your plate from start to finish.

I was drawn to the Jewish workshops and presentations one of which was led by a Woman Rabbi from NYC whose presence was utterly delightful and somewhat shimmering. I have always been drawn to the ancient texts of the Jewish people as they link the biblical and rabbinic periods, providing information about the founding of Christianity.

The topper for me was my last workshop that I attended which was focused upon “The Treasured Aramaic Words of Jesus”.

Our circle of perhaps 40 was opened by a Dominican Preacher, Joseph Kiikevice, OP from the Shem Center of interfaith Spirituality in Illinois. In my lifetime I have attended many circles, rituals and ceremonies, some I have led, some others have led. Joseph’s embodiment of the love of Jesus, the love for Jesus and his devotion to the path of Jesus brought each one of us present. I have never been seen nor invited by such filaments of luminosity. There was a large framed image of the Icon of Christ which was discovered in the Monastery of Svenigorod near Moscow in 1410. In this image we give him back his authentic Aramaic name, Yeshua, the name his friends called him in his own time and place.

It was from this place of deep friendship that the Dominican Preacher invited us in with his eyes, gestures and loving heart, into the very presence of Yeshua.

As a gathering we together read the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ first in the King James Version, then in Aramaic and then the translation of the Aramaic version by Neil Douglas-Klotz. We were then led by Pastor Steve Miller from The First Church in Jaffrey, N.H. in a dance that he created within the constellation of the “Dances of Universal Peace” for the Lord’s Prayer. Again, no words for this, embodiment through experience.

We closed with the circle doing dance steps to Ameyn. First with words of recognition that we are standing on the “bones” of all ancestors, that we are, One, and we affirmatively declare our Oneness.
